Programs for Teens at Sparrow Lake Camp
For Campers in turning 16 in the camp calendar year.
Leaders in Training (L.I.T.) Program – Ontario Summer Camp
Designed in collaboration with our older campers, the L.I.T. program at Sparrow Lake Camp is an updated leadership program focused on discovering your strengths and learning how to apply them in the real world. We know every camper has something unique to offer—but making a meaningful impact takes more than good ideas.
Back-to-Basics Leadership Skills
Our program takes a “Back to Basics” approach, helping you develop the skills to lead in your own life, wherever your journey takes you. While you’ll practice leadership in a fun, supportive camp setting, everything you learn—about yourself and others—can be applied far beyond camp.
Build Self-Awareness and Confidence
The L.I.T. program starts with self-awareness, helping you identify your unique strengths and gain confidence. You’ll learn to:
Build and lead strong, effective teams
Understand different styles of leadership
Solve problems creatively and adapt to new challenges
Learn Advanced Camp Skills
Camp is the perfect place to practice leadership! No boring classroom lessons—every skill is learned through hands-on experience. You’ll have opportunities to:
Master advanced camp skills like sailing, lifesaving, and leadership
Focus on an area of interest tailored to your strengths
Collaborate with peers to solve challenges and enhance camp experiences
Prepare for Life Beyond Camp
Throughout the program, you’ll debrief, problem-solve, and create positive experiences for everyone at camp. After completing the L.I.T. program at Sparrow Lake Camp, you’ll be ready for the next chapter—whether as a Junior Staff or in leadership roles beyond camp.
Offsite Trip
In 2026, our LIT Program will feature an off-site camping trip to explore one of Muskoka’s amazing Provincial Parks or Conservation Areas. Further information will be released closer to camp.

5 Night Volunteer Work Experiences
For L.I.T.s who are interested in becoming staff members at Sparrow Lake Camp in the future, we strongly recommend participating in an L.I.T. Volunteer Week. This is not a recreational camp week, but a one-week volunteer work experience that offers a realistic look at what it means to work at camp.
While participation is not mandatory, Volunteer Week provides valuable, hands-on experience and insight into the responsibilities, pace, and expectations of camp staff. Each year, L.I.T. volunteers take on a meaningful project that gives back to the Sparrow Lake Camp community. Projects may include trail clearing, painting, building gardens, supporting special programs, or other essential camp initiatives.
Participants complete up to 40 hours of volunteer service over the course of the week and are eligible to receive school credit for their participation.
For those who wish to extend their time at camp, L.I.T.s may choose to continue their experience by joining a Volunteer Session.
While there may be time for a swim on a hot day, or to connect with friends, participants should not expect to participate in regular camp programs during this volunteer week.
