Staff in Training Program
3 week (17 night) leadership camps for 16 year old campers (2003)
Option of One Week Volunteer Week (Counts towards Ontario High School Community Service Hours)
For youth who are interested in becoming part of the Sparrow Lake Camp staff team!
During a three week long training period, an emphasis will be placed on developing their leaderships skills that are critical for successful employment and maturity in the workplace and life. The SITs will develop their leadership and camp counselling skills, outdoor skills and provide effective support to campers and each other.
The SIT's will spend their first week together as a group, building their team and working on their leadership skills. After that each SIT will move into a cabin will be linked with a cabin group to gain first-hand experience with campers. The SITs will also have placements in different areas of camp they may wish to specialize - ie. the kitchen, administration, program specialty area or the site and facility team.
Successful completion of the SIT program is excellent preparation for a Sparrow Lake Camp staff position in future years. However, completion of the program does not guarantee such a position.
This program offers life and people skills to help the SIT be more employable at a camp or business outside of the camp season and more productive, self aware young adults through life.
Please Note: Our Volunteer Week will be offered the week immediately following their program. They will return home on the last day of the program with a Volunteer Contract which must be returned the following Monday. Bussing and registration for the Volunteer Week are Complimentary.
