Sparrow Lake Camp Spring Newsletter

It’s Spring!

We’re very excited that it’s finally spring! It means the world is starting to wake up from winter and we are only 101 Days until we load our first bus with campers for the 2018 Summer. It is also the season where we begin our community group rentals and our staff start slowly moving in for what will be another unforgettable summer.

Welcome to our New Camp Administrator Melanie Osmond!

Melanie joined the Sparrow Lake Family in 2017 as the office manager and now works year round as the Camp Administrator. Campers may remember her as “Mama Mel” delivering mail. After 10 years Louise Hewson is no longer our SLC Registrar. We thank Louise for all her assistance over the years. Melanie has taken over all the camp registration responsibilities. If you’re connected to us on Social Media she’s also the face behind our Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest. If you have any questions (or fun photos in #SLCSWAG or #TBT posts) don’t ever hesitate to e-mail melanie@sparrowlakecamp.com

Welcome to Katie Grove: Our Assistant Camp Director

If you would have told Katie when she first came to Sparrow as a Pee Wee at age 4 that she would be the Assistant Director, Katie would have laughed. After two summers away from Sparrow gaining more knowledge, Katie has returned! Katie has spent 4 summers on staff at SLC as both Counsellor and Resource Staff. Katie is currently at Laurentian University in the Outdoor Adventure Leadership Concurrent Education Program earning her teachers certificate and will move to camp in May. We are absolutely thrilled that Katie is back at Sparrow bringing her outdoor programming and leadership experience with her.

Want to meet the rest of the staff? Check out our Leadership Team and Staff Team pages on our website. They get updated regularly as we introduce new and returning staff! Take a look and see how many have grown up at Sparrow!

Programs are filling up! Which ones?

It’s true! Session 1 is completely sold out and a few more sessions aren’t far behind! Pee Wee B Boys is full and so is Session 3 Girls. If you haven’t registered for camp yet, better do it soon!

W.O.W. is back? WOW!

We have brought back one of the most popular programs from the past… Wonders of Wilderness! The W.O.W. will see campers exploring the outdoors, learning outdoor living skills, and trying new environment programs that we know campers will love! Fire building, cooking, knots and shelters, survival skills, wood craft, water studies, astronomy, and more!!

Help us RECRUIT new campers!

We still have space for new campers so we would love your help to recruit new camper families. Recruit a new camp family and your child will receive a new and exclusive subliminal camp hoodie!  These sweatshirts are not available anywhere else!  Deadline to refer a new camper and receive this exciting SWAG is Friday April 27th.  Host a camp information party and receive a sweatshirt for everyone in the family should you get multiple families on board!

Pee Wee’s, our smallest campers aged 6-8

Our Pee Wee program has been restructured to give our youngest campers the opportunity to stay at camp for 2 or 3 nights based on their comfort level. We have dedicated Pee Wee staff, who are returning Counsellors.  They will help facilitate age specific programming and theme-based fun in the forest. Many of our camp staff started as Peewee’s! Please help us build the next generation of Sparrow Lake Campers!

New This Spring: Family Camp Weekend!

Want to experience Sparrow Lake Camp with your child? Register now for our Adult-Child Weekend June 8-10. Father/son, Mother/Daughter, or whatever combination works best for you. Families and single parents all welcome. Even better, recruit a new family to come with you and get a $50 discount on your weekend for each family you recruit! Arrival Friday night for supper and depart Sunday after brunch.  Enjoy all camp activities on land and water, participate in evening campfire programs, hike or rest in a hammock.  Come sample some new canoes/kayaks and Stand Up Paddle Boards from our friends at Algonquin Outfitters. OPEN HOUSES IN JUNE

We have two open houses scheduled for this spring. Come visit us Saturday, June 23rd or Saturday, June 30th from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM. A BBQ lunch will be available both days. Meet staff, have a tour of camp, and help prepare your child for their camp experience. Bring an item to donate off of our wish list and receive a free Camp Waterbottle.

Have a Question for Barb?

We have some upcoming Facebook sessions where Barb and Katie will be talking about all things camp. Barb will be going April 7th to talk about the benefits of being a Camp Staff and Katie will be April 21st to talk about growing up at Sparrow Lake Camp! Make sure to follow us on Facebook so you don’t miss them!

Did someone say Swag?

Our merchandise store is now open and will stay open from now through summer.  Unlike last year your items will be delivered directly to your door within days of your order (you can label them before they get lost at camp)! Order your camp swag soon so your children can have camp clothing before they go to camp.  Check out all of the options and order here.

Help Camp

We love offering amazing summer experiences to our campers and your children but unfortunately the magic of camp can’t help with everything! We are always looking for donations to help. Check out our wish list, log onto our donation page to assist with some of our larger financial needs, or gather together some pre-loved items to donate. All of that information can be found here.

Thank you for your continued support of Sparrow Lake Camp. We love being able to bring campers together for meaningful outdoor experiences.

Yours in the Spirit of Camping,

Barb and the Sparrow Lake Camp Team
