Leader14 is a new program being offered by Sparrow Lake Camp in the summer of 2017.  The program is developed specifically for campers aged 14 during this calendar year.  The intent of this program is to provide campers with an introduction and balance of soft skills and hard skills that would excite them to return to camp in the next 2 phases of the Leadership Program ie. LIT (Leader-In-Training) and SIT (Staff-in-Training.) 

10 spots will be set aside for both females and males.  If one gender fills before the other, then the spots will be filled accordingly.  Support provided by Program Manager and Program Resource Team.  Reports to Executive Director.

Date:  August 14 – 25, 2017 

Soft Skills:

·         introduction to leadership 101

·         team building and communication skills

·         introduction to teaching and learning

·         receiving and giving feedback

·         ages and stages of growth

·         how to effectively work with children

·         song and game leading

Hard Skills:

·         introduction to all the skills offered at camp

o   canoeing, kayaking, sailing, archery, discovery, fine arts, challenge course, swimming

o   camping skills-fire lighting, shelters, cooking

·          evening activities, wide games

·         Day hike, cook out lunch

·         2-night, 3-day out trip


·         Placement with a cabin group

·         Placement with a skill area
